Trent Edwards - Bills QB of the future?
Trent Edwards showed flashes of brilliance last season and has been nothing short of rock steady in the preseason of '08. He looks confident, poised, and ready to lead a winning team. The Bills are surprisingly underrated for the quality of play they have showed on both sides of the ball both last year and in the preseason. I expect them to be the #2 team in the AFC East, and to challenge for the #1 spot. They are ready - they just need to win that "big game" and build a little confidence. I'm not a Jauron fan but I like what he's done up there.
The Matt Ryan Era Begins
Matt has looked solid in the preseason for the most part and its nice to see the poor Falcons finally turn the page on their recent, disgusting past and look to the future. They also have a good looking running game and their defense is not horrible. If they could get a receiver or two to do something, they might be trouble. Look for Ryan to struggle early in the season, then right himself. 4 of the first 6 defenses he faces are formidable (TB, CHI, GB, CAR).
Colts A Question Mark?
Injuries have really put a damper on the Colts' preseason, the latest casualty being Jeff Saturday, who will miss at least 6 weeks with ligament damage suffered in the 3rd preseason game. Manning will not have taken a hit or snap before Opening Day, Dwight Freeney returns from foot surgery, Marvin Harrison is coming off an injury, Mike Coe will miss 8 weeks coming off a knee injury, Bob Sanders is also coming off a shoulder injury. If everyone is healthy, Colts kick ass. If not, any one of those guys not playing to his potential could leave a hole in the Colts that they cannot afford in the highly competitive AFC South.
Warner Wins Card Job?
Boy, do the Cardinals hate Kurt Warner. Every year they try to move on from the Warner Era, and every year he plays himself right back into the starting role. Matt Leinart is one expensive backup, but its the coaches job to put the best players on the field, not the most expensive ones. Warner just... won't... die. PS... Drew Rosenscum continues to terrorize the Cardinals, through Anquan Boldin, who has made vague threats to "walk away" from the Cardinals. He won't, though.
Merriman Decides to Play in '08
Shawne had a choice - have surgery now and definitely be 100% ready for 09, or play through 2 damaged ligaments in his knee and have surgery in the offseason, potentially affecting his chances to be ready for Game 1 on 09. Let's not mince words - Merriman is putting his playing career in jeopardy by making this decision. If he takes a nasty shot to the knee, it could be all over... but the Chargers have a chance to win NOW and Merriman doesn't want to miss out on that chance. I'm behind ya, Lights Out... you only live once... I hope you get through the season healthy bud.
Life After You Know Who
All indications point towards a successful first season with Aaron Rodgers at the helm of the Green Bay offense. I for one would love to see it. Go Pack!

Colts will still kick ass. I don't think that Merriman is making a smart move by playing through the injury, putting such a promising career in jeopardy is foolish in my opinion. And I'd like to see the Falcons do well with Matt Ryan. I am also one who still underestimates the Bills: I won't believe it until I see it. And I hate Brett Favre- he's gonna have a real crappy season!
the colts will be fine as long as they have manning they will win the afc south. merriman is an idiot if four doctors tell you to take the surgery you dont tell them no and play. i hope rodgers wins and has a good year and hope the jets have a bad year. i honestly think the bills are better than the jets. all we know about the jets is they brought in a bunch of new faces.
i think that's going a bit too far for me, Ib4e! LOL... I hate Jets, I hate The Deity Favre, so seeing them doing anything successful will burn my nads. I admit it would make for great drama though. I think Turner will split time with Jerrious Norwood and be satisfactory but not spectacular behind the Falcons O-line. Thanks for the kudos!
I liked it. Very nice blog. That was good insight on the Colts. I forgot about their injuries. I'm with you on the Bills, people are way underestimating them. I'm taking a wait and see stance for the Falcons. Turner has always been the second back. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts to the lead back. It won't happen, but wouldn't a Jets-Packers Super Bowl be great?
