2008 Philadelphia Eagles Draft

So while I am a diehard Eagles fan, I will be the first to admit I am not a "draft nut". I will check once in a while on draft day to see who we picked up and at what position but I am not one to study potential picks and pretend like I am Mel Kiper. I must say though I am amazed when I talk to friends and they give me detailed analysis on players drafted.
So since I am not Mr. Indepth expert, I figure I would list our picks here give a few thoughts on them and let all Eagles fans discuss together their potential. Next year I will work on bringing Mel Kiper along to give you all better information!
Trevor Laws - DT Notre Dame
Ok, can't lie here I am not a Notre Dame fan so it pains me that we drafted one. The main thing I hear is his intelligence and has some speed considering his size. While they want some DT rotation I wonder how this will work out considering there is Patterson and Bunkley at this position.
De Sean Jackson - WR California
Since as said above I am not a draft expert, I will admit this is the pick I am both excited and skeptical over. There is no doubt in my mind that he will improve our special teams by giving us a dynamic returner. But here we go with another WR (a glaring need) that I am just not sure is the answer. (Chad Johnson, do you hear me???)
Bryan Smith - OLB McNeese State
Linebacker is yet another position where I feel we are weak. I love fast outside backers but when I hear the word undersized I get a little worried. While academic problems are the reason he was not in a big time program, it does concern me on his transition to playing with the big boys.
Mike McGlynn - OT Pittsburgh
Tackle is an area where the Eagles are fine this year but need to look to the future. Runyan (age 34) and Thomas (age 33) are both older and the wear and tear has to be wearing on them both. Thomas already has missed injury time.
Quintin Demps - FS Texas-Elpaso
Another position where we need to look to the future. I am a huge Brian Dawkins fan but as each season goes by I hope he still can play at a high level. Demps has some great speed and ability to quickly turn to the ball, hopefully Dawk can take him under his wing.
Jack Ikegwuonu - CB Wisconsin
The ACL injury is where the potential risk in this pick comes into place. The Eagles made this pick with plans for him in the 2009 season at the earliest. Hopefully his off the field troubles don't make this a wasted pick.
Mike Gibson - OT California
I am hoping this was a steal for us considering how Gibson played for Cal before injury problems got him. Once again the Eagles have to look for youth to replace Runyan and Thomas.
Joe Mays - ILB North Dakota State
Learn special teams young man.
Andy Studebaker - OLB Wheaton
Once again special teams is where he will start but with his size (6' 3") and apparent speed I will keep an eye on him for a potential late round steal.
King Dunlap - OT Auburn
The info on NFL.com says it all. Could have been a second round pick until his senior year came. Hopefully he can turn it around and devote his life to becoming a solid football player.
I always love after the draft when everyone sits there and grades how your team did. In reality all we can do is wait a few years and see how things pan out. Hopefully in 2010 we will be saying what a great draft the Eagles had!
